The territory of Alta Anoia, also known as Alta Segarra, hides a recent past almost forgotten underground. For 150 years the surroundings of Calaf were filled with coal smoke, which was extracted from the more than 250 mines that pierced the territory and made it change its appearance. Today, from that mining past, crucial to understanding the industrialization of the Anoia region, there are very few traces.
And one of the most remarkable is the Vicenta Mine, the first espace d’exploitation of lignite recovered on the territory. With almost 100 years of continuous operation, this mine, located on the Camí de les Morelles in the municipality of Calonge de Segarra, becomes the reference to rediscover a close past and what was its evolution and relevance in a space recently recovered by the municipality’s City Council.
Visits will be the first Saturday of each month and on arranged days and hours.
