This is the 2nd edition of the People of the Year Awards, called by the Prensa Ibérica communication group (El Periódico, Regió 7, Diari de Girona, etc.). These awards, sponsored by the Generalitat de Catalunya, seek to highlight the work carried out by Catalan towns during the year in three areas: cultural, sustainable and touristic.   Calonge de Segarra was awarded as Cultural Town of the Year; Palafolls, as Sustainable Village of the Year; and El Vendrell, as Tourist Village of the Year.   The entire municipal government team, led by the mayor, received this award at Calonge Castle (Girona), last September 24, at the Village of the Year Awards gala.   The award, obtained by popular vote, is the result of the recognition of the museumization initiative of the Vicenta Mine, within the Alta Segarra mining basin, as well as the promotion of this mining heritage by the municipality.
