The old shops of Calaf

Plaça Gran de Calaf was the nerve center of the town’s and the region’s trade, thanks to the celebration of the famous Calaf market, which had been held there since 1226.

This led to the opening of more than 40 shops around the old town.

In the 1950s, the market moved to another location in the town and this caused the shops to gradually close their doors or move.

The project “The shops in Plaça Gran, a recovered treasure” returns the vitality to this porched square in the form of a museum, representing the original shops as they were at the beginning of the 20th century.
